Peanut's Baptism

Yesterday we celebrated Meredith's baptism!
A precious angel from heaven above was welcomed into God's family with love.

I wonder when in life you realize how much love is actually surrounding you? When you understand what true love is all about. Unconditional love. Love that comes from the deep core of your being and is expressed in many ways. If only Miss Meredith could really, truly grasp that deep love, because today, love was in abundance!

Little peanut came into my life in February 2011 when her Mom, Dad and Brother let me know she was on her way. 7 months of praying, watching the baby belly grow, and waiting in anticipation, Meredith joined us 'earth side' on September 7, and since provided so much joy into my life.

I've been looking forward to this baptism day for awhile. There is something so profound and meaningful about baptism and even more so when you have such a strong connection and love to the one being blessed. Both Meredith and her big brother are much like family, where the bond is strong and rich, but when I was asked to be Meredith's God-Mother, this bond somehow grew stronger. I must admit, it's pretty hard to put my feelings into words. I'm still not sure I can express how fortunate, lucky, cherished and admired I am to be given such a respected and loved title. I'm humbled and in awe.

So on this day of Meredith's baptism, I was filled with tons of emotion. For myself, baptism is the dedication of that child into God's holy family. It is the opportunity for the parents to proclaim to their child, church community, families, friends and most importantly God, that they will raise this child as best as they can, with christian values, upbringing and guidance. As a church community it is the opportunity for us to proclaim our support for both the parents and child, that we will walk with them both as they grow and seek, trust and question. As God-Mother I hope I can be a positive role model, to hold Meredith as she grows and makes life's decisions, and be a constant source of support and love. I hope she will always know I am here, caring, loving and praying, and as she learns more about God, as her faith grows and blossoms and as she questions and seeks answers, she knows that I am here.

We celebrated afterwards with family and friends. Gathering to rejoice in the beautiful little gift God gave us, and the life that Meredith has ahead. It was fun, relaxing and full of love. At one point I looked around the kitchen and living room and every single person (including Meredith) had a smile on their faces. Whether it be the cake, or big brother JD's entertainment clearly everyone was happy to be involved in the day and celebrate the blessing of our sweet little peanut.

Meredith, I am blessed to have been part of your special day, and continually feel blessed as I continue to be part of your life. I look forward to watching you grow older, to walk with you as your personality shines, and to help guide you as you grow to be a confident, strong, passionate and secure young lady. As painted on the canvas, that will hopefully be hung on your wall and be a reminder of my promise to you: Meredith I promise to help you, lead you, encourage you, care for you, pray with you and most importantly to love you. You are a gift from God and blessing in my life. I love you so dearly! Welcome to God's family xo
